| Domain Name Management |
- Website names are registered and managed through a Domain Name Registrar like Network Solutions, Godaddy or Digital Intent Web Services.
- You must have access to this Registrar’s Login information to change hosting companies or re-direct your domain name to another location.
- If you do not have access to this information, you will need to register a new name for your new website.
- When a client has issues with their existing domain name, but wants a new site, the best solution is get another good name for the site build and launch – while they work out the issues with the old name. Once the issues with the old name are settled, it can be used again.
- Login to your Doman Name Registrar with your User ID and password to manage attributes of the name.
- Registering multiple domain names and pointing them to your website is a common and recommended practice. You login to your registrar, and point the name to another live website. Very easy to accomplish and very powerful for marketing.
- Changing Name Servers or Changing the DNS takes place when you are switching from one host account to another. Slightly more complex, but still a relatively easy self administrative procedure, once logged into your registrar’s account.
- Essentially this tells the name servers and e-mail servers to point from the old host account to a new host account.
- You will need to replace Primary and Secondary DNS with the NEW “nameserver ID’s” which your host provider MUST PROVIDE.
- They commonly look similar to this:
NS5.SECURESERVER.NET
NS6.SECURESERVER.NET
- When the website developer is ready, and the host account has been set-up, only then will you want to point the DNS to the new website.
- Parking is typical when you secure a name for future purposes, but do anything with further. Normally all that is incurred is an annual name renewal to keep the account and name active.
